All efforts will be made In order to save the 454 jobs at Mondelez

Montreal, December 4th 2016- Representatives from the QFL, the IAMAW and the BCTGM have met this afternoon with Dominique Anglade Minister of economy, Science and Innovation and François Blais. Minister of employment the discussions focused on the options that are available to the different actors to encourage Mondelez to maintain activities in its plant in Montreal.

“all stakeholders, provincial, municipal and labor unions have agreed to work together to make the necessary efforts to convince Mondelez to reconsider its position, explains David Chartrand vice-president of the Quebec federation of labor (QFL) and also Quebec coordinator of the IAMAW. The government has a budget available in the framework of an existing modernization and automation program and for our part we can approach the Solidarity Fund in the event of a willingness on the part of the employer to remain in Quebec.

We have taken a first step. The discussions went well and the Government is demonstrating an open mind in this case. We now know that we have the tools to try to convince Mondelez to keep its activities in Montreal. We remain far from our goal as long as the company does not demonstrate interest in remaining here, we will not feel reassured until then. Tomorrow morning the union representatives will meet with the management of Mondelez to discuss different solutions. For its part, the government will meet with the company before noon.

We have agreed with the Ministers to meet again to assess our positions depending on the responses obtained from Mondelez at this time we will discuss the next steps.
