To bombardier IAMAW Local Lodge 712 members

20 mai 2020

Brothers, sisters,

Yesterday, Local Lodge 712 signed an agreement with Bombardier to implement Canada’s Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS). This agreement will apply retroactively from the first day of your layoff, March 25th, 2020.

Bombardier announced on April 18th that it would not qualify for the CEWS for the period from March 25th to April 11th, 2020. Following the federal government’s announcement to relax the eligibility criteria for the CEWS, IAMAW officials-initiated discussions with Bombardier and reached an agreement with the employer.

This agreement changes the source of your income for the period from March 25th to April 11th, 2020. It applies according to the same terms as the one signed on April 27th. This means that the amounts received by the CERB ($2,000 per month) will be replaced by the CEWS program ($847 per week).

Keep in mind that you will have to take the steps yourself to reimburse the Government of Canada for the money paid by the CERB.

The date for the payment of retroactive amounts is May 21st. These amounts will be paid to you by the employer in the form of pay. Once you have received it, you can begin to take the steps to reimburse the CERB to the federal government.

The agreement does not change the agreement signed on April 27th, which covers the period from April 12th to June 6th, 2020.

The IAMAW considers this agreement advantageous since the CERB represents $500 per week, taxable at the end of the year, without disability or life insurance and without contribution to your pension fund. While the CEWS gives you access to full insurance, allows you to contribute to your pension plan pro-rated to salary and tax deductions are applicable at the source, thus already removed.

We continue to communicate regularly with the employer to find solutions to fight this crisis, which is harmful to all.
